Planet

G-Star takes responsibility for any potential environmental impact across all stages of our value chain.

We consider everything from the choice of raw materials and fibers to responsible fabric and garment production and logistics, from our own operations, all the way through to consumer care and end-of-life of the product.

G-Star has a clear understanding of the environmental risks and runs programs on:

CIRCULARITY

If we want to be here as a denim brand in the future, we need to design in “closed loops” today. By this, we mean increasing the share of recycled and organic materials, working with suppliers on chemical management under the ZDHC programme, and designing garments for reuse.

2025 result: 23% of our fabrics were Cradle to Cradle Certified®, exceeding our goal of 20% (Sustainability Report 2025).

MATERIALS

We are committed to sourcing raw materials that are certified against recognised standards for recycled, organic and animal-welfare content, as set out in our Materials Policy.

2025 result: 72.3% of our fibres were certified recycled, organic, bio-based or compostable, against our goal of 75% (Sustainability Report 2025).
GOAL 2030: 100% of our collection will be made from recycled, organic, bio-based or compostable materials. Progress is reported annually in our Sustainability Report.

CLIMATE CHANGE

We focus our climate impact work on our supply chain and consumer engagement, while also taking steps in our own offices and stores.

Progress 2025: −29% Scope 1 and 2, −31% Scope 3 versus our 2021 baseline (Sustainability Report 2025). Target validated by the Science Based Targets initiative.
GOAL 2030: Reduce 42% of GHG emissions* from a 2021 baseline. Progress is reported annually in our Sustainability Report.
GOAL 2050: Net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Progress is reported annually in our Sustainability Report.

*The Science Based Targets initiative has approved G-Star's near-term science-based emissions reduction target. G-Star commits to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions 42% by 2030 from a 2021 baseline. G-Star also commits to reduce absolute Scope 3 emissions from purchased goods and services and upstream transportation and distribution 42% within the same timeframe.

Pollution

Minimizing pollution and the environmental impact of hazardous chemicals have been a major priority for us since signing the DETOX Commitment with Greenpeace in 2013.

GOAL 2030: Phase out chemical applications that do not meet the ZDHC MRSL in G-Star products. Progress is reported annually in our Sustainability Report.
