Over 70 years after their creation, G-Star RAW and Vitra have revived a selection of office furniture designed by Jean Prouvé. The Prouvé RAW: Office Edition will be available soon.
Following the success of the first edition of Prouvé RAW in 2011, this second crossover collection revives a series of furniture and lighting originals designed by Jean Prouvé in the 1940s for the offices of major French industrial companies.
The project was initiated as custom pieces to furnish G-Star’s new headquarters in Amsterdam – designed by the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) and built in 2014. Long holding an affinity with Jean Prouvé’s construction approach and material use, the opportunity to revive and update the icon’s office furniture designs was unmissable.
“ ‘It’s wonderful to see that individual pieces are returning to the office – the place for which they were originally designed.’
Catherine Prouvé, daughter of Jean Prouvé “
Designed in cooperation with the Prouvé family, the limited-edition collection comes in a colour palette inspired by the greens of classic industrial machinery. Featuring necessary adaptions for the modern man and office – from his increased height, to the hiding of laptop cords – the engineers at Vitra achieved contemporary functionality.
Constructed from steel and solid timber, and finished in leather and premium fabrics, the new editions are true to the quality and stripped-back aesthetic of original Prouvé pieces.
The Prouvé RAW: Office Edition comprises of 11 models that include office chairs, lamps, and tables. Individually authenticated by special labelling, the Prouvé RAW: Office Edition is now available.
