ABOUT LIV

Most people will recognize Liv Tyler as the beautiful elf-princess, Arwen, from the blockbuster ‘Lord of the Rings’ movies, but that she should end up as a world famous actress and model might be a little surprising, considering her background.

She is the daughter of Aerosmith's lead singer, Steven Tyler, and model and singer, Bebe Buell, while her stepfather was another rocker, Todd Rundgren. It’s no surprise, therefore, that her childhood was full of music: “My mom was always in bands when I was growing up and I was very excited that I used to get to go to her gigs. On the weekends she would rehearse in friends’ basements and garages while I would watch. It was really fun. I always dreamed of being a singer as a child but I started modelling at 13 and then acting at 16, and I was bitten by the acting bug. I would love to make a musical one day, I dream of it.”

Her modelling career may have had to share top billing with her acting, but fashion has always remained important to Liv: “I love fashion and I enjoy it so much. It is a wonderful way of expressing how you are feeling at any given moment. Fashion is playful and enjoyable for me, and watching fashion shows is like going to the theatre.”

It was no surprise, therefore, when G-Star approached her about becoming the face of the Spring/Summer 2010 collection, that she was interested: “I was very curious about G-Star because I love all the things they do. It is so original and you can tell they really love what they are doing. It is brave and very raw.”

The resulting advertising campaign features Liv in a series of shots by the celebrated photographer and film director, Anton Corbijn. Liv’s striking looks and assured, independent style perfectly embodies the RAW Elegance of the modern G-Star woman – tough and controlled, yet not afraid to be sensual.

The success of that campaign has led to Liv returning for the Fall/Winter collection shoots, with Anton Corbijn again providing the images, “It has been such a fun collaboration so far. When I am dressed in G-Star I feel a little bit tougher with a slightly masculine edge, which is so fun because I am usually so feminine!”
