ABOUT THE SHOW

For more than twenty years, G-Star has been a denim pioneer: originating the concept of ‘luxury denim for the streets’ and popularizing raw, untreated denim. This concentration on craftsmanship and innovative design continues today in the evolution of the G-Star denim silhouette, with the adoption of architectural and 3-D thinking into jeans construction.
G-STAR CELEBRATES 15 YEARS OF 3-D DENIM
In 1996, G-Star created a new way of thinking about denim with the launch of the iconic G-Star Elwood. This revolutionary denim pant fused an articulated-knee design, taken from motocross trousers, with the functionality of work-wear pants. Street-style 3-D denim was born. Evolving this approach, G-Star then introduced the Arc Pant. This highly architectural cut features a low-crotch and straight-hip, with an asymmetric tapered leg. The result is a silhouette built for a 3-D human.
For Spring/Summer 2011, G-Star continues to evolve this new 3-D denim design language. For men, the Charlie Loose Tapered combines 3-D leg architecture with a 7/8ths length; a curved waistband adds comfort, while deep, full-length rear pockets add a functional touch. Innovation, however, is not only reserved for 3-D denim. G-Star continues to re-imagine the traditional 5-pocket style with fresh features and distinctive G-Star twists. The Bullit pant for instance, offers a triple-stitched waistband, rubberized details and triangular back-seam insert.
In the women’s collection, the fifteenth anniversary of the G-Star Elwood has inspired a number of distinctive interpretations of this denim style. The Roper X-Loose Tapered with its double-stacked rear pockets is a good example for this design approach. A surprising interpretation is presented in the Dean Jegging. These super-slim fit, stretch leggings feature a side button and zip fastening, with a fake front fastening that mimics the look of the G-Star Elwood.
DENIM FOR ADDICTS - RAW ESSENTIALS
The RAW Essentials program presents everyday denim executed with the finest detailing to create the top end of G-Star’s denim offering. Mixing vintage influences with a modern, big-city street style creates a range that breaths vintage denim couture.
For Spring/Summer 2011, an increased level of tailoring detail has been incorporated into the collection. Sophisticated cross-hand stitching, putt stitching and hand crochet loops add refinement to denim seams and edgings, while authentic trims in leather hark back to high-quality hat linings. Abrasion damage and holes are repaired with contrast materials, including a transparent film, and thermo-fused, adding modern technology to the more traditional crafts.
In the men’s collection, all of the denim pant styles are based around the unique, G-Star Loose Tapered silhouette. Variations on the crotch length, leg curvature and associated detailing provide a broad range of interpretations. The women’s collection features a number of different styles including the Hank Salopette NY, with its integrated top section and flared hips; and the Hank Low Crotch Flare, with its pronounced flare from the knee and two-part lower-leg.
ETHICAL DENIM - RAW SUSTAINABLE
G-Star understands the environmental need to reduce the use of conventional cotton. The RAW Sustainable offers a range of new products that contribute towards a more sustainable future without compromising on quality, comfort or design. The program is comprised of three sub-programs, each with its own specifics: RAW Organic (blue label), RAW Nettle (green label) and RAW Recycled (orange label).
RAW Organic uses only natural processes during manufacturing, minimizing the need for pesticides and other pollutants. RAW Nettle combines organic cotton with nettle plant fibers, to create a heavily reduced environmental footprint, while RAW Recycled blends post-consumer denim waste that has been broken down into cotton fibers with organic cotton to give a second life to the original material.
Key item of the RAW Sustainable program is the Soho 5620 Loose Tapered featuring a low crotch, G-Star Elwood-style articulated knee and stretched rear pockets. This pant is also available as a pair of shorts. For a complete RAW Sustainable look, this pant can be topped with the Soho 5620 Field Jacket for men, and the Soho 5620 Bomber for women, both with curved arms for comfort. Another stand-out piece for women is the Soho 5620 Sleeveless Tie Dress with a soft collar, subtle waist-flare and contrast belt.
A selection of shirts and T-Shirts featuring faded artwork to give them a ‘lived-in’ look and a range of jerseys and sweats complete the RAW Sustainable offer.
P.T. ARMY
The P.T. Army program fuses the block artwork and bright colors worn by hardcore army physical training instructors with the preppy styles of classic American sports-wear. Also in the P.T. Army program, G-Star’s dramatic three-dimensional Arc Pant denim silhouette is applied to a number of new styles, for instance in the Crockett Arc Loose Tapered jean for men and the Jo Ann Arc Loose Tapered sweat pant for women.
For men, the jacket selection features three interpretations of classic American icons: the denim McIntyre Field Jacket presents a demilitarized take on the army M-65 jacket, with heavy-duty storm flap and collar, patched chest pockets and zipped sleeves; the McIntyre Sports Jacket adds an elasticated waist-back and cuffs to a blue, nylon body; while the leather McIntyre Baseball Jacket contrasts a red body and cuffs with white sleeves and bold chest graphics.
The women’s collection feature two distinctive nylon jackets: the Milk-colored Jo Ann Bomber, with its deep storm hood and short body-style; and the thigh-length Jo Ann Coat in Fondant. Both feature single-piece arms and shoulder sections for comfort, ribbed waists and cuffs for a neat fit, and zipped waist pockets.
RAW ELEGANCE - CORRECT LINE
The Correct Line program comprises an all-day, every-occasion wardrobe that complements the traditional raw edginess and street-wear influences of G-Star’s core denim range with sophisticated, tailored pieces that emphasize craftsmanship and detailing. For Spring/Summer 2011, the collection absorbs influences from the world of 1930s elegant living and adds detailing touches from the cricket and tennis club garments of the era, such as fresh colors, bold stripes and contrast taping.
Highlights of the men’s collection include: the two-button, single-breasted New Blazer in various shades of blue and different fabrics; and the Deconstructed Blazer in a lightweight, blue-and-white pinstripe linen quality These blazers can be pared with the Low Crotch ½ Pant (shorts) to form a unique summer suit, or with the Low Crotch Chino for a more traditional, yet casual look.
The women’s collection offers several garments in a broad selection of lightweight, feminine materials. The Wrap Dress for instance, with its half-sleeve, tailored breast pockets and pronounced waist-flare is presented in Comfort Empire Chambray and Indigo Royal Rib. Indigo-colored, High-shine Bamboo Twill is used for the Bardot A-Line Jacket, with its military-style, six-button, double-breasted closure.
An extensive selection of shirts and knits are added for a complete apparel range.
