SUSTAINABLE PRODUCT
Objective
G-Star has always been known for innovative and
cutting edge denim styles. Our mission is to push boundaries -
continuously improving and developing new products that satisfy our
customers. G-Star believes that ecology does not have to be sacrificed
for quality. Our ambition is to create luxury products with minimal
environmental impact; by promoting responsible cotton farming, cleaner
manufacturing and investigating alternative sustainable fibers.
Process High
quality is paramount for G-Star. Quality control checks are conducted
throughout the production process of a garment. We examine the physical
properties of our fabrics and ensure that final products meet our
quality standards. In addition, we follow strict
laws on restricted chemicals and product safety. G-Star works closely
with suppliers to ensure and test compliance with our list of restricted
chemicals.
Sustainable raw materials
As a denim brand, G-Star uses a lot of cotton. Although it is a natural fibre, growing cotton commercially has significant social and environmental implications for the farm and farmers. Our goal is to reduce our conventional cotton consumption by steadily increasing the use of organic cotton and other sustainable materials. We are also exploring ways to further decrease the negative impacts of cotton production by helping farmers move from conventional to organic cotton growing.
Performance so far
In 2010 the RAW sustainable program was launched which uses organic cotton as a base for a range of new products that contribute towards a more sustainable future without compromising on quality, comfort or design. There are currently three lines under the RAW Sustainable program:
1. RAW Organic Cotton is manufactured using natural processes, minimizing the need for pesticides and other pollutants.
2.
RAW Nettle combines organic cotton with nettle plant fibers, to create a
sustainable denim with a reduced environmental footprint.
3. RAW Recycled blends post-consumer denim waste with organic cotton to give a second life to the material.
Next to the RAW Sustainable program we increase the use of sustainable materials by blending it into our apparel collection. .
